Roof Repointing Sydney
Repointing is the single most important maintenance job on a tiled roof, and it's the one most often left too long. The mortar bedding under your ridge capping is rigid — it expands, contracts and eventually cracks, and once water gets in behind it you're on a fast track to leaks and lifted capping in the next big blow.

Clean & Capture
Waste water recovery
We remove the failed material, rebed the capping properly where required, and finish with a flexible pointing compound that flexes with roof movement instead of cracking straight back out.
Rebedding vs repointing — the difference matters
Repointing is the visible top layer that seals and finishes the ridge line. Rebedding is the structural mortar underneath that actually holds the capping tile in place.
If the bedding has broken down, pointing over the top is cosmetic and will fail. Any honest quote should tell you which of the two your roof needs — and we'll show you photos of what's underneath.
Signs your roof needs repointing
From the ground, look along every ridge and hip line.
- Cracked, crumbling or missing mortar along ridges and hips
- Mortar debris in gutters, valleys or garden beds
- Capping tiles that rock or shift when touched
- Water stains on ceilings near ridge lines after driving rain
- Daylight visible through ridge gaps from inside the roof space
- Regrowth of moss along the ridge line where moisture is held
Flexible pointing, done properly
We use a flexible pointing compound rather than sand-and-cement over the top of old work. It bonds to the bedding, moves with thermal expansion and is available in colours that match tile and Colorbond roofs. Applied over sound bedding it should last well over a decade.
What you get
- Stops water entering at ridge and hip lines
- Secures capping against Sydney's spring and summer storms
- Flexible compound that doesn't crack out in a year
- Colour-matched finish across ridges, hips and gables
- Photo documentation of the bedding underneath
- Can be combined with cleaning and coating in one visit
Surfaces and applications
- Ridge capping
- Hip lines
- Gable ends & barge tiles
- Apron flashings
- Valley junctions
- Cement tile roofs
- Terracotta tile roofs
- Metal / tile transitions
Our process
How we approach roof repointing
- 01
Site assessment & quote
We inspect the surface, identify what's actually causing the staining, then send a written fixed-price quote with inclusions spelled out. No vague hourly rates.
- 02
Set up & protection
Gardens, fittings, drains and adjoining surfaces are protected before a drop of water is used. Access, hoses and leads are run so the site stays safe and tidy.
- 03
Treat, then clean
Organic growth is chemically treated first so it dies at the root, then we clean at the correct pressure and temperature for the substrate.
- 04
Waste water capture
Our Clean & Capture system vacuums waste water to a holding tank as we work, so nothing contaminated enters the stormwater system.
- 05
Final walk-through
We walk the job with you (or send photo documentation for commercial and strata clients) and only pack up once you're satisfied.
Real results
Results you can see from the street
Treatment first, then correct pressure for the substrate. That's the whole trick — and it's why the result lasts.

Why choose us
Serious equipment, correct method, no guesswork
Exterior cleaning done badly damages render, strips coatings and cracks tiles. Here's how we avoid all three.
On the tools since 1998
Not a franchise and not a call centre. You deal with the same small crew that turns up and does the work.

Clean & Capture waste water
Waste water is vacuumed and recovered as we clean, so nothing contaminated enters the stormwater system. It also lets us clean indoors.
Right method for the surface
Soft washing for render, coatings and roofs. Correct-pressure cleaning for concrete and masonry. Steam where heat beats pressure.
Treatment, not just a rinse
Mould and lichen are killed at the root before anything is rinsed, which roughly doubles how long the result lasts.
Fixed written quotes
Scope and inclusions in writing before we start. No hourly creep, no surprises on the invoice.
FAQs
Roof Repointing — common questions
How often does a roof need repointing?
Every 15–20 years is typical for sand-and-cement pointing. Modern flexible pointing lasts longer. If your roof has never been repointed and the house is over twenty years old, it's worth an inspection.
Can you repoint without cleaning the roof first?
We strongly recommend cleaning first. Pointing needs a sound, clean surface to bond to, and cleaning reveals the cracked tiles and rusted valleys that should be dealt with at the same time.
How long does repointing take?
One to three days for a typical home, depending on the length of ridge and hip lines and how much rebedding is needed. It needs dry weather to cure.
Will repointing fix my leak?
If the leak originates at a ridge or hip, usually yes. Leaks from cracked tiles, rusted valleys or failed flashings need those items addressed too — which is why we inspect and report before quoting.
